The house where the hostel is located was a neighbors house. Ten different families lived here, one in each room and shared one kitchen and one bathroom.

It was completely reconstructed eleven years ago.

rodrigo de triana

Rodrigo de Triana

Rodrigo de triana was an andalusian sailor of the end of the XV century, companion of Columbus in his first voyage. His real name was Juan Rodriguez Bermejo. There are many doubts about his birthplace, but the most accepted version tells he was born in los Molinos in Seville, but resident in Triana neighborhood.

He was the first spaniard who sighted the new continent from his watch position in “la Pinta” ship during the dawn in october 12th of 1492. Rodrigo saw a small island in the Lucayas archipelago of Bahamas, well-known by the natives like Guanahani and columbus re-baptized it as San Salvador. People says that The Kings of Spain promissed a 10.000 maravedies compensation to the first who sighted earth but rodrigo did not receive anything because columbus said he saw it first.

Santa Ana Triana

Triana

Triana neighborhood has preserved all the charm and character of the traditional polular quarters. The first solid bridge to link the area with the main part of seville – the Isabel II bridge which is populary known as Triana bridge – was not constructed until the middle of the 19th century. The long period of isolation helped to create a feeling of independence which still survives. An illustration of this is that the main church of the quarter, Santa Ana, is still referred to as “triana’s cathedral”.
